Tunnels & culverts

Made from either helibore pipe (up to 3.6m diameter) or bolted plate (up to 12m diameter), our culverts and tunnels have been used in more than 50 countries worldwide since 1964.

Profiles

We can create a range of different profiles to suit the project. Below is a selection of the most common profiles for each application, however please contact us if you require a bespoke profile.

Culverts

culvertsStream culverts usually require a paved invert to protect against abrasion and this is normally in the form of in situ concrete. Other options such as Reno mattresses are sometimes used.

Common profiles

  • Circular
  • Elliptical
  • Pipe arch
  • High profile pipe arch

Pedestrian and vehicle tunnels

tunnels1A variety of shapes and sizes are available to suit most applications.

Different types of pavement can be used and we can advise on this.

This picture also shows how the roads and embankment furnishings might look.

Conveyor or reclamation tunnels

tunnels2Manufactured from bolted plate, Hopper or feed openings can also be fabricated in the top of the tunnel and bulkheads or escape tunnels at the ends. These tunnels can be extended and dismantled for re-use.

Common profiles

  • Circular
  • Elliptical
  • Pipe arch
  • High profile pipe arch

Lining tunnels

tunnels3Re-lining tunnels offers an economic way to strengthen existing tunnels, masonry or concrete arches. A corrugated streel structure can be assembled inside the existing structure providing a lining. Linings are either bolted plate or two-flange liner plate. The annulus between the steel lining and the existing structure is pressure grouted.
