Background to specification
The authorised BMW dealer for the Chester area, Halliwell Jones Chester, opened its new Aftersales Centre in the summer of 2012 – with Tubosider providing stormwater attenuation for the project.
The new centre on a 5 acre site on Knutsford Way, close to the current dealership, would offer fast lane servicing, parts and accessories, a BMW and MINI approved bodyshop and smart repair facility plus a full valeting operation.
It’s another partnership between Tubosider and contractors Patton Construction, who also used one of our systems at Audi Leicester, again on our technical merits. As a plus, Philip Jones of the Halliwell Jones network happened to witness the installation and was more than impressed by its smoothness and our support.
As our system would be a deviation from the system specified for the Chester development, engineers Hancock Wheeldon & Ascough were naturally keen to know how well our system performs under car park loadings with bitmac surfacing and associated make-up.
The response from Tubosider could not be simpler. Unless otherwise told, we always design our tanks for Highways Agency loading (up to and including 40 tonne articulated lorries) and with a minimum design life of 60 years.
Solution & benefits
Matt Groves of Hancock Wheeldon & Ascough expected this to be a very typical criterion for our product and was immediately satisfied.
As he said, “We see this deviation from the specified system as a benefit to the client as it provides a robust storage system that also has the ability to be maintained and cleaned out in the future, which the specified system did not.”
